Uttarakhand HC hears PIL seeking probe into Shantikunj Haridwar, Brahma Supremacy Research Institute

The Uttarakhand High Court on Monday heard the public interest litigation seeking a probe into the disturbances at Shantikunj Haridwar and Brahma Supremacy Research Institute.

After the hearing, the High Court directed the petitioners to remove the name of respondents Pranab Pandya and his wife Shail Bala, who are the heads of these institutes and file the amended application. At the same time, the court has also asked the government to file the counter-affidavit in the case within four weeks.

The case was heard before the bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice Alok Kumar Verma.

According to the case, Manmohan Singh, a former employee of Shantikunj Haridwar, had filed a PIL in the High Court stating that ever since Pranab Pandya and Shaila Bala Pandya have become surveyors of Shantikunj and Brahma Supremacy Research Institute, there is discontent among these institutions.

The petition said that so far about 17 people have committed suicide. The petitioner demanded an inquiry into the matter.

It is pertinent to note that in the case of rape of a girl against Pranav Pandya, advocate Vivek Shukla had filed a PIL which was ordered by the High Court to be filed before CJM Haridwar. The police has also taken the victim’s statement in this case.

Advocate AP Singh, who had pleaded on behalf of the accused in the Nirbhaya rape case, had given an affidavit in the High Court. A letter of appeal was also given to repeal the stay order on the arrest of Pranav Pandya.

At the same time, a petition was filed in the High Court in Shantikunj Haridwar on November 8, 2011 in the case of 20 people killed and 67 injured in a stampede.
