Uttarakhand HC furious at roadways workers not being paid since July

The Uttarakhand High Court has expressed its displeasure over state roadways employees not getting their salaries since July 2020.

The Court has asked the Uttar Pradesh Government, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation and Uttarakhand Government to submit an affidavit in the case within a week. The next hearing will be a week later.

The case was heard in the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ravi Kumar Malimath and Justice Alok Kumar Verma. Earlier, the Court had asked the Uttar Pradesh Government to either show the order of the Supreme Court or pay Rs 27 crore to the corporation. But in the hearing on Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh Government could not show the order of SLP filed in the Supreme Court. The Court expressed its displeasure over this. In this regard, the court asked to the government to present affidavit within a week.

At the same time, the Court also expressed displeasure with the Uttarakhand government for not paying salaries to the employees. The Court asked the UP Government whether the bill got approval from the Cabinet regarding payment of dues to Uttarakhand.

The PIL was filed by the Uttarakhand Roadways Workers Union. It states that the Government has not paid them salaries through the lockdown. The union also says that it has been 20 years since Uttarakhand came into being but the corporation has not been able to claim the Rs 27 crore which is with the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation.
