Madhya Pradesh HC defers PIL seeking insurance, mediclaim for lawyers

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has adjourned the hearing of a PIL seeking insurance and mediclaim facilities to lawyers in the state till February 17.

The division bench of Chief Justice Mohammad Rafiq and Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla has given time to the petitioner to submit the required documents in the context of the demand.

Advocate Deepak Panjwani, Rajesh Panjwani and Neha Bhatia appeared on behalf of the petitioner Chandrakumar Valeja, state president of the National Joint Advocate Forum.

The petitioner argued that the Delhi government has implemented insurance and mediclaim policy for 28,000 lawyers of Delhi. Similarly, insurance and mediclaim policy should be implemented for lawyers in Madhya Pradesh.

It was alleged in the petition that a letter has been written by the petitioner to the state government in this regard, but no action has been taken.

The petitioner requested for time to present additional documents in the case, which was accepted by the High Court.
