Kerala High Court rejects ex-Bishop Mulakkal’s pea for adjournment of rape trial

New Delhi (ILNS): The Kerala High Court has dismissed former Bishop Franco Mulakkal’s plea to adjourn the trial against him.

The former Bishop of the Jalandhar Diocese, Punjab under the Latin Catholic Sabha, has been accused of raping, as well as forcing “unnatural sex” a nun at the Saint Francis Mission Home, Kuravilangad.

Mulakkal has been charged with offences punishable under Sections 342, 376(2) (k), 376(2)(n), 376C(a), 377 and 506(ii) of IPC.

Earlier, the former Bishop had moved an application for discharge under Section 227 Cr.P.C, which was dismissed on March 11,. He then preferred a criminal revision petition before the high court which too was dismissed on July 7.

Then Mulakkal had moved a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court, which got dismissed on August 5. Thereafter, the Sessions Case was listed for trial on September 16.

The latest appeal (for adjournment of trial) by the former Bishop has also been rejected by the high court.
