The matter of huge disturbances in the voter lists regarding the election to the Fazilka city council has reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. A writ has been filed in the High Court on behalf of the BJP. Copies of the writ have been sent to the Second Party through the Advocate General Office.
BJP District President Rakesh Dhudia, Divisional Urban President Advocate Manoj Tripathi and former chairman of the Municipal Reform Trust Dr. Ramesh Verma said there was a huge mess in the voter lists regarding the Municipal Council elections to be held in the second month of 2021.
They said that in many wards if there is more population, then less votes have been registered and in many wards, the population is less then there are more registered voters; which clearly shows that there have been huge mistakes in these voter lists.
They further said that these copies have been installed in the High Court with evidence. It has been mentioned in the writ filed in the High Court that the respondent should correct Fazilka’s city voter lists.
Their copies have been sent to the Principal Secretary (Local Bodies), Director Local Bodies, State Municipal Election Committee, Deputy Commissioners Fazilka and SDM Fazilka through the Advocate General Office asking them to respond within the stipulated time.
Moreover, there has been a huge reversal in the votes cast in 25 wards of Fazilka city. He informed that more votes have been made from the population of wards from ward number 1 to 13, which they got from the RTI sought from the city council, Dhudia said.
He also said the BJP had objected to the SDM in this regard. At the same time, a complaint was also made to the State Information Commission. In which it was alleged that in voter lists, the population in ward number 3 of Fazilka is 2,855 and the number of votes is 3,092. Similarly, in ward number 2, the population is 2,841 and the number of votes is 2,153. Similarly, in ward number 10, the population is 2,864 while the vote count is 2,608. Whereas, out of the total population, the votes are only 60 percent.
Rakesh Dhudia said an earlier complaint was lodged in the office of retired state election officer Jaspal Singh Sandhu. The office also registered his objection on December 18.
