BJP has emerged as the single largest party if we go by the trends. Has the promise of free coronavirus vaccine for everyone in Bihar done the magic for the saffron party?
Bengal BJP leader Babul Supriyo took a dig at Mahagathbandhan in his tweet. He asked how people in jail and on bail could even think of getting people’s mandate?
Tejaswi calls Rahul Gandhi & says:MGB = Mar Gaye Bhai !! and I am saying it very seriously, yes all puns are V much intended• How dare people on Jail & Bail think that Bihar will forget all that? After all it was them on the ground who went they the torture of the ‘Jungla Raj’?— Babul Supriyo (@SuPriyoBabul) November 10, 2020

NDA is currently leading in 125 seats matching its tally of 2015 Bihar polls where it won on 125 seats. However, these are trends and the picture can change as the counting progresses.

Some 2 weeks after voting in the first phase on October 28, the people of Bihar will today, November 10, know who has won the mandate for the Bihar Assembly election 2020. Counting will start at 8 am but there have been fears of electoral malpractices.
Late last night, the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal, which is leading the Mahagathbandhan in the state, alleged some hanky panky in Ara.
The contest in the state has been called a tight one. Some exit polls expect a hung house while others see the Mahagathbandhan led by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav stealing a march by a mile. The exit polls are unanimous that among people they polled, voters saw Tejashwi as a better candidate for CM than even Mr Sushasan himself, the good governance crown on the head of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal United looking jaded and worn.
The campaign had its highs and low. The high being the free coronavirus vaccine promise for the people of Bihar by the BJP, possibly the first time a public health necessity was part of an election manifesto. The low being the intensely personal attack by Nitish Kumar on Tejashwi’s parents – Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, both former CMs – on size of their brood. Tejashwi, however, stuck to corruption issues and what he called sham Prohibition, which had made people rich by starving the state of revenues.
The BJP and the Janata Dal United stayed on note over the corruption charges against the RJD first family. Their alliance, the National Democratic Alliance, had their own problems as the Lok Janshakti Party challenged Nitish Kumar’s leadership in the state and set out to contest n its own. That decision was followed unfortunately by the demise of LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan.
If the grim reaper left the LJP without its founder, the bars of prison kept the charismatic Lalu Yadav away from campaigning. The Bihar election 2020 was the first in more than a generation, the veteran leader had not campaigned in. But will his absence show when the votes are tallied? Tuesday evening will tell. Until then, keep an eye on this space.
