Allahabad HC orders regulation of golf carts around Taj Mahal

The Allahabad High Court has ordered regulation of golf carts in a radius of 500 metres around the Taj Mahal in Agra. The Court has asked DM Agra to allow only those golf carts which are registered in this area.

The division bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Saurabh Shyam Shamshery passed this order while hearing a PIL filed by Pramod Sharma and others.

The Petition has expressed concern over the increasing pollution from golf carts. They have demanded a ban on over-operation of them.

The Petitioners said that there is a glut of unregistered golf carts in a radius of five hundred metres around the Taj Mahal. Due to their irregular operation, not only pollution is increasing in the area, but traffic problems are also arising.

The Agra Development Authority has written to DM Agra several times in this regard. However, no action was taken by the District administration to control it.

While directing the filing of a brief Affidavit in this case by February 22, the Court said that during this period, the DM should ensure that only those golf carts are allowed to operate in the area.
